SciFinder Scholar:
Access Restrictions


On 31 March 2004, only SciFinder Scholar (SFS) 2002 or SciFinder Scholar 2004 will be able to access the CAS database. All older versions of SciFinder Scholar will be disabled. If you have an older version you will need to upgrade to Scholar 2002 or Scholar 2004.

We have 24 hour access (7 days a week) for two (2) simultaneous users. According to the demands of the license agreement, we must provide the client via the network.

  • If you are working from an XP computer within the library, use the following path to open the client:
    • (Start -> Library Services -> Science & Technology -> SciFinder Scholar -> Scholar 2004)
      (NB - This path does not work for computer cluster computers.)
  • If your are not using a XP computer within the library, then you must download the correct client for your computer's operating system:
    • Macintosh 7.6.1 or higher, Mac OS 8.x, OS 9.x, or OS X (in OS 9 classic mode) client
             There are is known problem downloading the site.prf file.
      • If your computer has an older version of SFS then copy the site.prf from that folder to the folder containing the current version of SFS.
      • If your computer does not have an older version of SFS, then there are two options: 1. Use Netscape - click & hold on the site.prf link - select "Save Link Target As..."; or 2. Contact chemlib.1@nd.edu and ask for a copy (3 Mar 04)
             Contact chemlib.1@nd.edu if you have problems.
    • Windows 95/98/2000/Me/NT 4.0/XP client
           There is a known problem printing a search history using SFS and XP.
    and follow the instructions.
  • There is no UNIX client of SciFinder Scholar 2002 or 2004.
